Happy New Year! ! ! !
We start the new year in fourth place in the league which is an excellent position to be in. The lads have worked very hard to achieve this and with a few good results we could finish the league in that position which would be more than I expected in our first year in a new division. We had a good couple of results over the christmas period especially our battling 3-3 draw with Brynford. Unfortunately our first game back after the new year was probably one of our worst performances of the season, that's taking nothing away from Point of Ayr as they thoroughly deserved there win over us.
We have a lot of hard games a head now but we are in a good position to push forward. There needs to be alot of commitment from the whole squad now, with hard work being out in training and also in our preparation for the games, going into them with the right attitude. I was very pleased to see Mark Poynton score on his first full start and it was good to see Luke make his debut as well. We would like to welcome another new signing Dale Lovatt who has signed from Buckley. Dale has a wealth of experience at Cymru Alliance level and this con only improve the team as whole.
I'd again like to thank Sue Barnard and Gez for all there hard work and support, the lads and myself really appreciate this. I would also like to say a big thank you to Haydn for his help and idea's as my assistant.
A lot of hard work and learning for the lads ahead, but I think the club has a good building block for a bright future. Keep up the good work boys !
The Gaffer
It was a very pleasing result against Betws yn Rhos at the beginning of December
and a thoroughly deserved 3-1 win, which could have been even more convincing had the two goals which we all felt were over the line (except the referee!!). It was disappointing to concede a late goal and if that hadn’t happened, it would have been our third consecutive game to register a 3-0 score line. However, it was a brave attempt by Chris twin to keep the ball out and a solid all round performance by the lads. One of the second half substitutes in the final third of the match was Mark Poynton, who was making his debut following his transfer from Halkyn United, which as mentioned in my previous blog will be a big asset to our club. The win meant we leapfrogged Betws into third spot in the league on goal difference.
The following Saturday we entertained Brynford United (who sit firmly in second place) the last game before the Christmas period. Unfortunately I was unable to be at the game but what Andy (Watty) was telling me we gave a good account of ourselves
and the 3-3 result could have ended up an even higher score line, with both sides missing clear cut scoring opportunities. It’s pleasing to see Tim Hughes keeping up his scoring rate who is nearing the 20 mark. (may it long continue for CPD Sychdyn)
The first fixture of 2008, we again had a home match against Point of Ayr, who beat us 3-1 at their place, therefore the lads were keen to seek revenge. However, we must have suffered from the ‘New Year’ blues as we were sunk (literally due to pitch conditions) 4-3. The windy weather/pitch conditions played a part as mistakes were made and our overall performance was not up to our usual standards. Mark Poynton celebrated his home debut with clinical finishing, shooting from 20 yards, following good link up play with Tim Hughes.
This Saturday we entertain Aztecs Sports (weather permitting) in the 2nd Round of the REM Jones Cup. This will be our first game this season against Aztecs as we still have met up in our league fixture, therefore we are both in the dark about each others strengths and weaknesses, but I’m sure the lads are up for it and hopefully we can progress to the next round.
C’MON THE LADS
On a sad note and on behalf of CPD Sychdyn I would like to send our condolences
to all those associated with Halkyn United F.C. following the tragic death of Kevin
as a result of a road traffic accident and our thoughts are with his family and friends.
Also, our sympathy goes to the family of Emrys Williams, one of the Leagues longest serving referees, who recently passed away and whom I have known since his days working for the previous Clwyd Authority at County Hall, Mold.

Just like to start by saying Happy New year to everyone involved with the club and also all our fans out there. As for the month of December we have had a good run of games winning two and drawing one which again inconsistently ran in to the New Year with a loss to Point of Air. Again all the lads are putting in plenty of effort and still getting a good turn out on a Saturday afternoon, although the numbers at training are slowly decreasing and so is the standard. I feel we need to get back in to putting in 100% at training which will hopefully show on a Saturday.
Nice to hear Rich Hughes has been released by his kidnappers, or where ever he has been hiding and he did make one appearance for us at the start of the year, although it was back in the pub. I believe the Christmas night out was a result although I was not able to make it, I’ll definitely make it next time and show these youngsters how to drink.
Keep up the good work for the New Year lads and let’s try and have a good cup run!!
