Managers Blog (October 2007)

Hello again everyone!!

We are now just over a month in to the season and we are progressing steadily. We still have new additions to the squad who are settling well and we sit nicely in mid table. The lads are working hard in training and on the pitch and all the hard work should pay off in the end. I still think we can work harder and so do the lads and I think we can improve.

We have some mixed results so far this season; we have won twice in the league but also lost twice in the league. We have also won in one cup competition and lost in another. From all the games we have learnt from the good and the bad things and this can only improve us and makes us better. I'd like to say a big thank you to Leason Homes for again donating some money to help the club as this is always a big help and any donations towards the club is a big help. After a little bit of a delay our new kits are just around the corner and should be getting the finishing touches, again a big thanks to Jim Williams and to the Principality for supplying the new kits.

I would like to thank Gez for his kind words in his blog of last month, but the success of the club is not just to myself or the management team, it is the lads who go out there every week and do the hard work and they do play with enthusiasm and are proud to be wearing the Sychdyn badge. I would also like to thank Sue Barnard for continuing her role as our treasurer, she is a great asset to the club and I know the lads look forward to seeing her on Saturdays so that she can badger them for the money!

We still have a long way to go and a few injuries to clear up but the squad are positive and want to do well and I believe that each and every one of players are capable of making the step up with a bit more hard work.

I'd also like to congratulate Rob Lawrence (mincemeat) for getting hitched in the month of September. I'd also like to thank Adam Walker for wearing the captain’s armband for us this year, he has taken over the role from Rob and he is taking the responsibility well.

Here’s too few more good results in our favour as we look to climb the league.

Now we are a few months in to the season, I am more than pleased the way the whole squad have acquitted themselves so far, not only on match days but also during training sessions. The league games have been very encouraging with good all round performances by the lads. After loosing Dave Wilcox, our top scorer last season, I believe we have found the ideal replacement in Tim Hughes. Unfortunately I missed Tim’s hat-rick when we toppled our premiership opponents Mochdre Sports 3-2 at home in Round 1 of the Presidents Cup. However, I saw Tim score two superb goals, with clinical finishing for his second hat-rick on Saturday when we defeated a strong Glan Conwy Reserves side 4-1, with Tom Norris (Big Noss) scoring the third goal to take his tally to 3 this season.

On a less positive note it was a big disappointment to go out at the first hurdle 4-1 to Caerwys Reserves in the North Wales Coast Junior Cup, which is best forgotten. This was followed by a home defeat to Betws yn Rhos who are riding high in Division 1, however this was a much improved performance from the lads and with better luck we could have forced a draw. It was good to see Rob Lawrence starting his first game of the season (after his honeymoon period) and judging by the performance he put in, he intends to keep his place.

From what I have seen after watching our games, we need to be more disciplined; especially when contesting referee’s decisions and I am sure Andy (Watty) will install this into his coaching programme.

The club would like to thank Cllr Mel Higham for sponsoring the match ball for our next home game.

I would like to thank Paul (Yozza) Hughes for his hard work and excellent contribution towards the club’s new web-site and updating it on a regular basis. A big thank you also to Sue Barnard, for keeping our finances in order and making sure the lads pay their subs and fines etc!!

I’m glad to hear that Mic is on the road to recovery after his illness and look forward to seeing him back in contention soon.

On a finishing note, Caerwys Reserves on Saturday will be a tough encounter, but I am sure the lads will be up for this one and after revenge following our cup exit last month at their ground. Hopefully we will have our new kit available.

C’mon the lads

Captains Blog (When he can be bothered doing it!!!)

I thought I better put a few words down as everyone has been on my case to do so. I have been a member at Sychdyn F.C. for many years now and as one of the senior players it is good to see the club moving upwards. We now have a committee together who put a lot of effort behind the scenes at the club; we have a new young(ish) manager Andy, who has taken us up to the 1st Division in his first season here and also have a great squad of players. It’s good to see everyone is committed and we are still getting really good turn outs for training. I was proud to take over the captain’s armband for this season at newly promoted Sychdyn. We are now in to October and I feel we are going steady at the moment in regards to results, but we are still far too inconsistent for the ability we have at the club. We have been giving away far too many silly goals. It would be great if we could finish in the top half of the table for the end of season but my prediction is going to be 4th place or above…..as for yellow and red cards…I predict we could be near the top (Tom?????)…All I can say is keep up the good effort in training and stay committed lads and we’ll do alright.
