Hello again everybody!!
We are about to embark on a new season and the league have seen fit to promote us again, so a big thank you to the league and a big pat on the back to everyone associated with the club. As with every new season we are always looking to the local companies to help aid us with the running of the club, any donations would be gratefully received.
We have added to our squad with some excellent editions and I would personally like to welcome Luke, Jack and Josh to the ranks, these boys will bring strong competition for places within the team with everybody having to raise there games to hold down a first team shirt. Pre season has gone extremely well and the lads are ready and raring to go as we look to get our teeth in to another higher standard of football.
I'd like to thank Rob Lawrence who has become my assistant manager, and so far things are going well and I'm sure we can take the team further and progress the team on and off the field. I'd also like to thank Gez and Sue for staying on in the respected roles, I know they both very proud of the lads for going up another league.
We only have one more friendly left as I was a bit late writing this and we begin our league program on Saturday 16th at Wats Dyke Way against last seasons Champions Prestatyn Town Reserves. We are expecting a tough game, but it will be an excellent test of our creditials. Anyone who would like to come down and watch the boys this season please keep up to date with our fixtures on the web page.
My congratulations to Richy Hughes for becoming the new team captain, I know the lads will look up to him on and off the field as he is a well respected member of the team. Good luck Richy.
All the best for the new season
In my end of season blog, I said how proud I was of being associated with CPD Sychdyn, after what we have achieved over the last two seasons. Now that’s it’s been confirmed that we’ve been promoted to the Premier League it makes it even more of an honour and ‘dream come true’.
I’d like to congratulate our Manager Andy (Watty) and Rob Lawrence, for their commitment and hard work, towards this great achievement and also to all the players involved, who have also worked hard and fully deserve to be where they are.
Even though the squad is virtually the same last season, we have a couple of new players, who have signed namely Josh Underhill and Luke Reece (previously with Rhydymwyn). and I hope they both enjoy their stay with the club. At the time of writing, I hope we will have another addition to the squad. We have lost one player from last season, that being Shaun Massey, who has emigrated to Australia and all of us at CPD Sychdyn wish him well and good luck with his new club in Aussie land.
The only black note, is the shoulder injury sustained by Andy Poynton (our first choice keeper), towards the end of last season. I am sure we would all like to wish Andy a quick recovery and hope to see him back at training soon. As a result, Paul (Yozza) Hughes will carry on between the sticks, when he heroically filled in for Andy and I am sure Yozza will be up for the challenge. His first game will be against Prestatyn Res, this Saturday, against last seasons Premier champions. (they don’t come any easier!!).
Our new captain for this season will be Richie Hughes, who’s been at the club for approximately 5 years. Still only 24 years old, Richie has the experience and the maturity and will no doubt acquit himself well in leading the team and I’d expect all the lads support him in his new role.
Our main kit sponsor will be James Williams again this season, with our second strip (shirts) sponsored by Principality. I would like to thank both sponsors for their continued support.
A big thank you also goes to Mark and Craig, the new owners of the recently renovated Red Lion P.H. Northop for agreeing to put on some grub for both teams after our home matches.
Also, the club is grateful to Paul Ashley (Builder) who has agreed to sponsor and help us with the erection of the home and away dug-outs and hopefully we can have these built by the time the bad weather arrives, once we have received the necessary permission.
Our match ball sponsor for our first game has been very kindly donated by Joey Forrester (FORRESTER SPORTS), very much appreciated.
If anyone would like to sponsor /donate a match ball for future games, please do not hesitate to contact myself by telephone or by e-mail. (details available on this web-site).
Thanks again to Sue Barnard for continuing in her role as treasurer and for all her work in keeping our finances in order and helping with fund raising etc. Also a big thank you to Yozza for his brilliant work in re-vamping our web-site and I am sure it will grow from strength to strength.
Mel Higham who has supported the club over a number of years, recently suffered ill health and I
would like to wish him a speedy recovery, from us all at CPD Sychdyn.
Also, a get well message to Gordon Boyd, who was admitted to hospital after returning home from referring the first half of our game last Saturday.
By the time I write my next blog, we will have a fair idea how we will cope with playing in the Premier Division. However, after watching (and referring a couple of games!!) our pre-season friendlies against tough opposition, I am more than confident we can consolidate a healthy position, in our first season in the ‘top flight’
